The story of Mako
Mako began with SeaWorld Orlando’s wish for a broad, powerful ride built around speed and airtime. The choice fell upon a hyper coaster, with the strength and agility of the mako shark guiding the design. inparkmagazine.com
Bolliger & Mabillard shaped the ride in their polished Swiss manner, using parabolic hills, sweeping overbanked turns, and a Hammerhead turnaround to give the long course its character. Magnetic brakes and careful computer-aided design helped bring a smooth finish to the achievement. inparkmagazine.com
The work rose beside the park’s lake, where construction included excavation, concrete foundations, pile work, and the careful installation of the track and station. Central Florida weather made the building programme a practical undertaking as well as an engineering one. bartonmalow.com
By the summer of 2016, Mako had opened as Orlando’s tallest and fastest roller coaster. Visitors approached through a pier and shipwreck setting before boarding a ride praised in the trade press for its graceful motion and smooth, flowing hills. prnewswire.com· inparkmagazine.com
