The story of Journey to Atlantis
SeaWorld announced Journey to Atlantis as a major new attraction for its Florida park, with an opening planned for spring 1998. Contemporary reporting called it the largest and costliest project yet undertaken across the Anheuser-Busch theme parks. travelweekly.com
SeaWorld of Florida worked with German ride designer Mack Rides on the attraction. Its boats were designed to rise from the water onto a track, turning the voyage into a high-speed roller coaster. livedesignonline.com
Opened in 1998, Journey to Atlantis was presented as the first combination roller coaster and flume ride, as well as SeaWorld of Florida's first thrill ride. The operating attraction remains a water coaster with dark passages, chain lifts, steep drops, and splashdowns. livedesignonline.com· coasterpedia.net· seaworld.com
