The story of Phaethon
Phaethon opened at Gyeongju World on 5 May 2007, bringing the park a substantial new steel attraction from Bolliger & Mabillard. It was the Swiss manufacturer’s first roller coaster in South Korea, and the country’s first inverted coaster. coasterpedia.net· cam.gjw.co.kr
The design places its riders beneath the track, with a long sequence of inversions after the chain lift. A vertical loop, zero-g roll, cobra roll, two corkscrews and sweeping helixes make the ride’s course a carefully arranged procession of steel above the walkways of the park. coasterpedia.net
Phaethon formed part of Gyeongju World’s investment in its X-Zone area, helping to establish the park as a destination for large-scale thrill rides. A Korean account places its construction cost at fifteen billion won, or approximately 16.14 million US dollars. moongchi0407.tistory.com· d.namu.moe
