The story of Goliath
La Ronde commissioned Goliath as a major new steel attraction for the Montréal park. Bolliger & Mabillard drew the ride to suit the available ground on Île Sainte-Hélène, giving it a long out-and-back journey toward the island’s eastern point before the return to the station. coasterpedia.net· tvanouvelles.ca
Construction involved substantial foundations and supports, with the work continuing through the winter before the track and trains were brought together for testing. The finished structure was steel, with the installation carried out by Martin & Vleminckx. coasterpedia.net· kids.kiddle.co
Goliath opened in 2006 as the tallest and fastest roller coaster in Canada, a distinction that helped establish it as one of La Ronde’s principal landmarks. Those national records later passed to Behemoth at Canada’s Wonderland. coasterpedia.net· carouselhistory.com
From its station, the ride turns visitors out across the island’s edge and then gathers the course back through its succession of hills and turns. It continues to operate as La Ronde’s Bolliger & Mabillard Hyper Coaster. coasterpedia.net
