The story of Wild Mouse
The design was secured by Luna Park manager Ted Hopkins and Dick Pearce after they saw a Wild Mouse at the Seattle World’s Fair. Girvan Bros. then built three local examples, including the Sydney ride, which began operation in 1963. en.wikipedia.org· apps.environment.nsw.gov.au
In its early years, the ride was made for a travelling life as well as a harbour-side one. It was dismantled for annual appearances at the Sydney and Brisbane shows, and was later replaced at Luna Park by the larger-capacity Wild Cat before returning in the park’s 1990s revival. apps.environment.nsw.gov.au· archival.sl.nsw.gov.au
The Wild Mouse was thoroughly restored after closing in late 2022. Specialists combined traditional timber work with modern engineering, and the ride reopened to visitors in March 2025, preserving its characteristic zigzags, steep drops and harbour outlook. abc.net.au· ausleisure.com.au
