The story of Villa Volta

Villa Volta began as the idea for a large rotating-house attraction, carried forward by Efteling designer Ton van de Ven through a long period of development before reaching the park in 1996. efteling.com· eftepedia.nl

An early design called for a grand hall, but the weight proved unsuitable for the rotating construction. The project was reshaped as a stately house, with the technical installation developed in cooperation with Vekoma. eftepedia.nl

The finished attraction combines two preshows with a main room in which the benches remain seated while the surrounding room appears to roll over. It opened to visitors at Efteling on April 4, 1996. eftepedia.nl· efteling.com

Its unusual marriage of theatrical setting and engineering was recognised with a THEA Award for Outstanding Achievement. Efteling describes Villa Volta as the first attraction of the madhouse type, and it remains a notable house in Marerijk. efteling.com· eftepedia.nl
