The story of De Vliegende Hollander
De Vliegende Hollander was developed as a particularly ambitious addition to Efteling, joining a dark ride with a water-coaster course in the park's Ruigrijk area. KumbaK supplied the principal design, while Efteling carried the project forward with its own work. eftepedia.nl· coastersandmore.de
Testing brought a serious difficulty at the point where the boats met the lift hill. Intamin was called upon to devise a new solution, bringing the boats to a controlled stop before the chain took hold and allowing the attraction to proceed safely. eftepedia.nl· parkkey.net
The attraction opened in 2007, becoming one of Efteling's notable modern water rides. Its construction was a considerable technical undertaking, combining boats, enclosed scenes, a lift and an outdoor course within one continuous journey. efteling.com· eftepedia.nl
Early accounts praised the care given to the queue and soundscape, while finding the outdoor course quieter in character than the richly built interior. The ride nevertheless established a distinctive place in Efteling's collection of large attractions. eftepedia.nl
