The story of Danse Macabre

Danse Macabre was built on the site of Efteling’s former Spookslot Haunted House. By July 2024, the park reported that its staff had been working on the new attraction for two years, while a mysterious abbey took shape behind the construction fences. efteling.com

The design was developed around a new Dynamic Motion Stage by Intamin. Six choir-stall cabins stand upon a great turntable, allowing the platform to rise, tilt and fall while the individual cabins rotate independently. intamin.com· efteling.com

To give the building its solemn character, Efteling’s design team visited several abbeys in Belgium for inspiration. Reused elements from Spookslot were also installed inside the new structure, alongside choir seating and a large organ. efteling.com

Danse Macabre opened to the public on 31 October 2024. Efteling presented the ride system as a first of its kind, making its debut at the Dutch park where the new attraction replaced Spookslot. efteling.com· intamin.com
