The story of Thunder Dolphin
Thunder Dolphin opened on 1 May 2003 as the principal coaster of the LaQua complex at Tokyo Dome City. Its steel course was fitted into the closely built district, carrying visitors through an opening in the LaQua building and through the centre of the Big O Ferris wheel. coasterpedia.net· at-raku.com
The ride's compact urban setting was part of its achievement. Rather than spreading across open parkland, the Intamin layout was arranged over and around the surrounding buildings, making the architecture of central Tokyo part of the journey itself. thrillzing.com· at-raku.com
On 5 December 2010, a bolt fell from the ride and injured a young visitor. Thunder Dolphin then remained closed while investigations and safety work were carried out, reopening on 1 August 2013. mlit.go.jp· coasterpedia.net
In the spring of 2023, Tokyo Dome City introduced replacement trains with revised seats, backrests and restraints. The new trains entered service on 6 April, with lighting added for evening operation. prtimes.jp· coasterpedia.net
