The story of Intimidator

Carowinds announced Intimidator on August 26, 2009, as a twenty-three-million-dollar Bolliger & Mabillard Hyper Coaster. The project was scheduled for a spring opening and was to become the park’s largest single investment at the time. coasterpedia.net· enr.com

Steel began to rise through the autumn and winter. The lift hill was topped off on October 13, 2009, the final piece of track was fitted in December, and testing began on February 4, 2010. coasterpedia.net

The gates opened on March 27, 2010. At its debut, the ride stood as Carowinds’ thirteenth roller coaster and brought a new 232-foot landmark to the park’s outline. coasterpedia.net· prnewswire.com

The opening was widely presented as a major new steel coaster for the Southeast, with a long course, a steep first descent, and a broad view across the Carowinds grounds. prnewswire.com· parkworld-online.com
