The story of Gemini
Cedar Point introduced Gemini in 1978 as a double-racing coaster, sending red and blue trains away from Sandusky side by side. At its opening, the park presented it as the tallest, fastest and steepest roller coaster in the world. pointbuzz.com· sixflags.com
The ride combines a steel track with a great timber framework, a handsome piece of late-seventies engineering built by Arrow and constructed by Mosser Construction. Its double layout gives the visitor two courses to watch and one finish to await. coasterpedia.net· sixflags.com
Winter weather interrupted the work, and Gemini did not open at the start of the 1978 season. It finally welcomed its first visitors on June 17, after the difficult Northern Ohio winter had passed. pointbuzz.com· coasterpedia.net
The racing arrangement soon made Gemini one of Cedar Point’s well-regarded rides, with the two trains leaving together, sweeping through the figure-eight course and returning after more than two minutes on the road. pointbuzz.com· sixflags.com
