The story of Son of Beast

Son of Beast rose in the Action Zone section of Kings Island, on the Mason grounds north of Cincinnati. Built by Roller Coaster Corporation of America, it opened in 2000 as a wooden hypercoaster of uncommon ambition, standing 66.4 metres and reaching 126 km/h. en.wikipedia.org

The ride’s original distinction was plain to every traveller approaching its great wooden frame: it was a wooden coaster with one vertical loop. For a few seasons, visitors passed beneath that remarkable circle, an engineering boast set into a forest of timber bents. coasterpedia.net· en.wikipedia.org

Its career was troubled. After a 2006 incident, a state report described a design deficiency and a cracked support leg that produced a dip in the track; Kings Island said the loop would be removed so lighter cars could place less stress on the structure. fox19.com

Son of Beast last operated in 2009. On July 27, 2012, after evaluating alternatives, Kings Island announced that the coaster would be removed for future park expansion, and the great wooden mountain passed into park history. web.archive.org· coaster101.com
