The story of Volcano: The Blast Coaster

Before the coaster came, the traveller found a great man-made mountain at Kings Dominion. Opened as The Lost World in 1979, the structure had held earlier amusements, and by the later nineteen-nineties it was prepared for a new piece of machinery. coasterpedia.net

Intamin’s design made a considerable claim for 1998. Volcano was built as a launched inverted coaster, using linear induction motors, and it carried its passengers from the dark body of the mountain to a high roll out above the crater. en.wikipedia.org· thrillride.com

The opening was not effortless. Contemporary accounts and later histories described delays and adjustments before the ride opened on August 3, 1998; the result was a twenty-million-dollar Kings Dominion landmark with four inversions and a maximum speed of 113 km/h. thrillride.com· en.wikipedia.org

Volcano last operated in 2018. In February 2019, Kings Dominion chose removal after evaluating reliability, guest satisfaction, throughput, rider capacity, uptime, and maintenance; the coaster and mountain were demolished that year, while a lead car later reached the National Roller Coaster Museum and Archives in Texas. coaster101.com· ridewithace.com
