The story of Riddler's Revenge
Riddler's Revenge opened at Six Flags Magic Mountain in 1998 as the park's second stand-up coaster. Its predecessor, Shockwave, had operated there earlier, making this a return to a particularly Californian form of amusement engineering. coasterpedia.net
The ride arrived as part of a larger redevelopment of the Monterey Landing area. In this corner of Magic Mountain, the new steel structure became both an attraction in its own right and a conspicuous addition to the park's growing collection of major coasters. coasterpedia.net
Before the opening, the Los Angeles Times reported that the park had been encouraged by visitors who still remembered its earlier stand-up coaster. The new machine answered that request with a 47.5-metre rise, a speed of 104.6 kilometres per hour, and six inversions taken from a standing position. latimes.com· sixflags.com
At its debut, Riddler's Revenge was credited with setting stand-up coaster records for height, drop, speed, length, and inversions. Guinness World Records also records it as the longest stand-up roller coaster design, a distinction that gives the Valencia skyline one of its most carefully engineered landmarks. coasterpedia.net· guinnessworldrecords.com
