The story of Boulder Dash

Boulder Dash was conceived as a mountain coaster for Lake Compounce, and opened in 2000 as a major new work by Custom Coasters International. Its track follows the natural rise and fall of the wooded hillside rather than standing apart from it. coasterpedia.net· latimes.com

The setting demanded patient and ingenious construction. Crews used special cable and pulley systems to move equipment into the mountainous ground, taking care to disturb as little of the surrounding landscape as possible. coaster101.com

From its first seasons, the coaster drew notice for its long, low course through the trees, its rapid turns, and the remarkable way the ground seems to rise and fall around the train. It later received repeated recognition in Amusement Today's Golden Ticket awards for wooden coasters. coaster101.com· latimes.com

Lake Compounce has continued to renew the structure through retracking and refurbishment, preserving the character of a wooden ride that belongs unmistakably to its hillside, its forest, and the lake below. coasterpedia.net· coaster101.com
