The story of Wooden Roller Coaster

Carl Phare designed the coaster as a great wooden landmark for Playland, while Walker LeRoy directed its construction. Built board by board, it welcomed its first visitors in 1958. pne.ca· pne.ca

The ride was arranged so that, after the first hill, the train would travel by momentum alone. Engineers doubted that the winding course would work, but the construction team’s trial proved the design sound. pne.ca· montecristomagazine.com

Douglas fir gives the structure its characteristic wooden movement, and the track has been carefully inspected, repaired, and renewed through the changing Vancouver seasons. globalnews.ca· pne.ca

Once threatened with demolition, the coaster was preserved as a civic treasure. It is recognised by the American Coaster Enthusiasts as both a Coaster Classic and a Coaster Landmark. placesthatmatter.ca· ridewithace.com
