The story of Spinball Whizzer
Adventure Land made room for a new family coaster in 2003, when part of the area became a construction site and the Gallopers Carousel was moved aside. It was a small corner of Alton Towers being prepared for a bright new piece of machinery. towerstimes.co.uk
By January 2004, the ride was complete enough for testing, and that spring visitors met Spinball Whizzer: a Maurer spinning coaster set amid the paths and lawns of the Staffordshire resort. towerstimes.co.uk
Maurer’s own SC 2200 presentation names Alton Towers as a custom-designed installation. Its plan reads like a tidy engineer’s itinerary: station, lift, drops, block brakes, turning figures, and a homeward run. media.maurer-rides.de
A contemporary holiday preview introduced it as Alton Towers’ new attraction for 2004, noting the 60 kph running and turning cars. After a later sponsored period, the ride returned to the Spinball Whizzer name for the 2016 season. theguardian.com· towerstimes.co.uk
