The story of White Lightning
White Lightning arrived as the principal coaster of Fun Spot America’s 2013 expansion along Orlando’s International Drive. The park’s enlargement gave the former Fun Spot Action Park room for larger rides, and brought Orlando its first wooden roller coaster. fun-spot.com· parkworld-online.com· amusementtoday.com
Great Coasters International built the ride with wooden track upon a steel support structure, a first of its kind for the company. The arrangement was chosen to reduce maintenance while preserving the character of a wooden coaster, and the finished structure was given a neat, ordered appearance. amusementtoday.com· greatcoasters.com
The course was a new departure for its builder: a true out-and-back arrangement, with banked turns, changing elevations, a double-up and double-down, and a ninety-degree banked section at the far turnaround. Shorter six-car Millennium Flyer trains required the designers to revise their calculations for the ride. amusementtoday.com· greatcoasters.com
White Lightning opened to visitors on June 8, 2013, and remains in operation. In September 2020, a fifty-five-foot section of Titan Track was installed, marking the first use of that product on a roller coaster. amusementtoday.com· coasterpedia.net
