The story of Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion followed the great flood of 1972, which damaged nearly every ride at Knoebels. A new building raised during the park’s recovery became the dark ride, opened in 1973 as a sign that the resort was moving forward again. salvatorereunion.com· web.archive.org

Knoebels supplied the ingenuity. Nearly all of the sets and tricks were made by park workers, while the ride drew upon salvaged Pretzel parts and other second-hand machinery rather than arriving as a complete factory attraction. berkshistory.dreamhosters.com· puderluder.com

The ride opened with fifteen cars from the Pretzel Company. Historical records note that some had already served at Devil’s Den at Rolling Green Park, giving this Pennsylvania attraction a working inheritance from an earlier age of amusement parks. web.archive.org

Visitors have continued to find the Mansion among Knoebels’ most memorable old-fashioned diversions. The park still describes it as a traditional haunted ride, while travel reporting has noted its dented metal cars and its place in the resort’s living history. knoebels.com· washingtonpost.com
