The story of Dæmonen
Tivoli Gardens had welcomed travellers since 15 August 1843, when Georg Carstensen opened his pleasure garden just outside Copenhagen’s old walls. More than a century and a half later, the park still had room for a modern flourish among its lake, paths, and summer crowds. tivoli.dk
Dæmonen was prepared as the successor to Slangen, with Bolliger & Mabillard chosen for the work. Tivoli’s own annual report called the new coaster its largest single investment in modern times, and described the eight-month road from first spadeful to a ride ready for visitors. app.tivoli.dk· en.wikipedia.org
When it opened on 16 April 2004, the ride brought a compact Swiss steel course into the heart of Copenhagen: 28 metres high, 77 km/h, and three inversions. Its trains were arranged for a listed capacity of 1,200 riders per hour, a useful virtue in a garden so close to the city’s daily life. en.wikipedia.org· coasterpedia.net
The first season gave Tivoli a conspicuous new landmark and a well-attended one. Tivoli reported one million guests taking a ride in 2004, while also noting that public opinion was not unanimous; as with earlier Tivoli coasters, a little civic argument attended the new amusement. app.tivoli.dk
